I did some research and found that pineapples are really good for you. Yes, I know, they're fruits, of course they're good. What I should say is that they're better for you than I thought.
Aside from curbing those cravings for sweets, here are some health benefits of adding pineapples to your diet:
When you say vitamin C most people immediately think of oranges but pineapples are also a great source of Vitamin C. If you're like me, stocking up on Airbourne and EmergenC the second other people start coughing then you probably already know that vitamin C can help boost your defenses against or shorten the duration of the common cold but did you know that it can also help lower your risk for heart disease, cancer, cataracts and stroke along with immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, and even skin wrinkling? Hello! A fruit that can help you look younger longer- I'll take that!
Strengthen Bones & Metabolism
Manganese is responsible for the building of healthy bone structures, connective tissue and the absorption of calcium. It also is connected to helping assist the body to seek out free radicals and destroy them.
Antioxidants do a lot more than help you look younger. They are responsible for finding and desroying free radicals such as from x-rays, radioactive substances, cigarette smoke, and polluted atmospheres. These little buggards can damage cells in the human body which cause everything from making you look older to causing cancer and various diseases in between.
Pineapples are also a great source of fiber and nutrients. Fiber helps you feel fuller longer which means that you'll want to eat less. The nutrient rich content means that you get the nutrients, ie. vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and antioxidants, that your body needs but with fewer calories. It's better to fill up on nutrient dense foods than foods with "empty calories" like potato chips and candy because for the same number of calories you can have more to eat and feel fuller longer.
Alleviate PMS Symptoms
This one really surprised me. Another property of manganese is that it is known for helping to alleviate the mood swings, headaches, depression and irritability sometimes associated with PMS. I wish it helped with cramping though. My irritability is other peoples problem. LOL
