How to Keep Make-Up Off Your Clothes

1/29/2014

From day one of my make-up wearing journey I had 3 problems.

1. How to keep makeup off fingers
...and inevitably my drawings, paper work, jeans etc

The solution to #1 was the most obvious but not the easiest habit to break: STOP TOUCHING YOUR FACE!

No brainier right? Until you start wearing makeup, you don't really know how often you touch your face.

You rub your eyes- good bye eye shadow, liner, & mascara hello Sly Cooper.

You massage your temples- letting the stress melt away until you touch the drawing you spent all night on.

You prop your chin up during class then personally stamp the $200 textbook you were planning to resell as "like new".

Scratch your nose, wipe hair out of your face, or do this...

Well... easier said than done. This article in The Huffington Post suggests a session or two with a hypnotherapist to help break the habit. I used the fear of ruining a book or another important letter at work.

2. How to keep makeup from sliding off
It took me a few years to get this one. Slippery makeup can be the result of a combination of things such as:
  • No primer.  Think of it as Gesso for your face. Try Magix Face Perfector but don't get too carried away or you'll end up with...
  • Too much primer. Yea, been there too. Use primer in moderation. Remember its not a moisturizer. A little goes a long way. Apply a thin coat to give your foundation something to stick to.
  • The wrong foundation for your skin type. If you have oily skin like mine, the primer will help but stay away from anything that says "dewy" or "moisturizing". Those are fine for dry or normal skin types. As a matter of fact for dry skin you really want to moisturize & use moisturizing formulas or your makeup wont slide off, it will crack off.
  • Foundation that doesn't last. Try a 8-12 hour formula like Extra Lasting Liquid Foundation
  • No Powder. Once you've got all your layers on set everything with a dusting of a fine powder like Ideal Flawless Pressed or Ideal Flawless Loose powders

Once again moderation is key here otherwise you'll get the "cakey" look. Speaking from experience, there really is such a thing as too much cover. Foundation and powder are not concealers. They're for evening skin tone and setting. Try not not to get carried away.

For more staying power do not apply more powder use a makeup setting spray like Ben Nye's Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer. Sorry ladies, unlike Avon products you might find this a little hard to come by. Shop around for a good price. I Confess, I always have a jug of the stuff. Its perfect for sweltering summer months.

3. What to do about shirt collars
Ahh the feeling when you put on a fresh, crisp, white button down for work. Add a blazer, some cute heels and by the time you turn your head to take a look in the mirror you look like Bruce Willis' stunt double for Die Hard.

Fortunately what I learned from problem #1 helped make me more conscious of transferring my makeup and solutions found for problem #2 helped my makeup stay put longer and transfer less.

Still collars remained a problem. When I asked others for advice the common response was "Just don't put makeup on your chin, jawline, or neck"

Um. What? Sooo nothing from my cheeks down?... I couldn't do it. So, I rocked the Die Hard look.

This week I finally found an answer! - Makeup remover wipes.

Who would have thought that they worked on clothes too!

I always loved these wipes for lazy days when I didn't feel like going through the usual 2 step makeup removing process, or after the gym. No matter how many layers of makeup and setting spray I had on, they were literally gone with a wipe. One wipe! The Makeup Remover Wipes with Mineral Complex are thick and strong but soft enough to use around the eye area for that stubborn mascara and liquid liner.

The durability is what makes them so great for rubbing clothing. The formula is already made specifically for dissolving makeup on your face, so why not a temporary fix for collars during the day. Granted, nothing does it like a good wash but this quick fix is still a big improvement.  I now keep a few in my purse just for this purpose. No more messy bleach pen!

Do you have any makeup transfer nightmares or tips for keeping it in place? Please share below. If I had just asked my fellow bloggers I might have solved this problem a long time ago.

ANEW CLINICAL Absolute Even Multi-Tone Skin Corrector

"Effective on all skin tones.** Clinicially shown to improve the look of discolorations: 38% improvement in clarity; 25% improvement in the look of dark patches; 13% improvement in the look of dark spots.*** Clinically tested to be mild and gentle.*** 1 oz. net wt.

9 out of 10 women saw a dramatic improvement in skin tone for flawless, younger-looking skin.* Dramatically reduces the look of 7 types of discolorations**:
- dark spots
- uneven skin tone
- post-acne marks
- brown patches
- blotchy red patches
- freckles
- sallowness

My new favorite skin care product! After using this product for a month I started seeing results. 3 months later, I'm so happy to say, for the 1st time in years I'm feeling confident enough to dust some powder on & walk out the house

For 2 months I used this product in both my morning and evening regimens. In the last month I added the Resurfacing Expert to my evening regimen. The results have been phenomenal!

Picture
I've always felt self conscious about my acne scars. First I tried coco butter not a good combo with oily skin. My solution was to pile on concealer, then foundation, then more concealer to specific areas, then powder.

Result: Cake face, worsened by my oily skin. So I added face perfecter, HD oil absorbing powder & a setting spray. On top of my cleansing & moisturizing regimen I now had a 7-step makeup routine. Frustrated, I regretfully invested $2,000 in testing a laser procedure that was supposed to even skin tone. Aside from the pain, redness & scabbing for a week after each procedure I saw no result. After 2 months I was told that my scars would need 7 treatments to disappear

...How was I supposed to invest even more money into something that showed no signs of change after $2,000?

I can't tell you how excited I was when Avon announced the launch of the Multi-tone Skin Corrector and post-acne marks was on its list of treatable discolorations along with dark spots, uneven skin tone and 4 others! That's 7 types of discolorations! 4 more than Cliniques Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector whose description includes only "traces of past acne" and costs $49.50. Avons Multi-tone Skin Corrector launched at $28 with a regular price of $39.99. I would have to buy over 50 bottles to equal the cost of the 2 laser treatments, so I figured even if it took a few months at this price it was worth a shot. I'm now on my 2nd bottle!

Best skincare decision I've made since Clearskin! Even the discoloration around my mouth & chin that many of us brown women struggle with has faded. No smelly skin lightener or fade cream here!

My skin, my color, all me!

Why Use an Eye Treatment?

Anew Clinical Pro Line Eraser Eye Treatment
One of the first signs of aging is crow's-feet. They are sometimes called "laugh lines" or "character lines". While our skin is able to stretch and return to its original shape due to collagen and elastin as we age our skin looses elasticity and doesn't return to its shape as easily, thus wrinkles form. Just think about how much our expressions change the skin on our face. In addition the skin is thinnest around the eyes.  Using an anti-aging eye cream and sunscreen is important to help reduce the look of these tell-tale fine lines and wrinkles.

I searched for an answer for this question and came up with an answer on RealSelf.com. A suggested approach used by a Dermatalogic Surgeon was to use a series of a combination of treatments involving 2 lasers, a Erbium laser micropeel, and Botox. These treatments would be given over the course of 2-4 sessions depending on how you response to the lasering. A surgeon suggested (no surprise here) surgery or a chemical peel.

Anew Clinical Pro Line Eraser Eye Treatment is formulated with patented A-F33. According to a consumer-perception study, the look of deep wrinkles around the eye area was reduced in just three days. I don't know about you but if the alternative is TWO TO FOUR 2-laser sessions at a dermatologist, whose sessions can be pretty costly, plus a micropeel plus Botox, I would try the $34.99 treatment. Especially with a buy 1 get one for $5 sale price on now.

What Is Your Acne Telling You?

I found this article on thebeautygypsy.com its really interesting.

"Face mapping, which is fast taking centre stage at most clinics nowadays, combines Ayurveda and ancient Chinese medicine with cutting edge dermatologists’ prescriptions to explain how certain parts of your face are connected to other areas of your body. Put simply, think of your face as a map and blemishes as X’s on that landscape. Spots in different zones correspond to different problems. So, with this “map” as your guide, you can address the underlying causes of blemishes and not only make the unsightly zits vanish but also treat the underlying health problem in time...

1 & 2: Digestive System — Eat less processed or junk food, reduce the amount of fat in your diet, step up water intake and opt for cooling things like cucumbers.

3: Liver — Cut out the alcohol, greasy food and dairy. This is the zone where food allergies also show up first, so take a look at your ingredients. Besides all this, do 30 minutes of light exercise every day and get adequate sleep so your liver can rest.

4 & 5: Kidneys — Anything around the eyes (including dark circles) point to dehydration. Drink up!

6: Heart — Check your blood pressure (mine was slightly high) and Vitamin B levels. Decrease the intake of spicy or pungent food, cut down on meat and get more fresh air. Besides this, look into ways to lower cholesterol, like replacing “bad fats” with “good fats” such as Omegas 3 and 6 found in nuts, avocados, fish and flax seed. Also, since this area is chock-full of dilated pores, check that your makeup is not past its expiry date or is skin-clogging.

7 & 8: Kidneys — Again, drink up! And cut down on aerated drinks, coffee and alcohol as these will cause further dehydration.

Zone 9 & 10: Respiratory system — Do you smoke? Have allergies? This is your problem area for both. If neither of these is the issue, don’t let your body overheat, eat more cooling foods, cut down on sugar and get more fresh air. Also keep the body more alkaline by avoiding foods that make the body acidic (meat, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, sugar) and adding more alkalizing foods like green veggies and wheatgrass juice. Another thing that most of forget – dirty cell phones and pillow cases are two of the top acne culprits and this area is what they affect the most!

Zone 11 & 12: Hormones — This is the signature zone for stress and hormonal changes. And while both are sometimes unavoidable, you can decrease their effect by getting adequate sleep, drinking enough water, eating leafy veggies and keeping skin scrupulously clean. Another interesting point: breakouts in this area indicate when you are ovulating (and on which side).

Zone 13: Stomach — Step up the fibre intake, reduce the toxin overload and drink herbal teas to help with digestion.

14: Illness — Zits here can be a sign that your body is fighting bacteria to avoid illness. Give it a break, take a yoga class, take a nap, take time to breathe deeply, drink plenty of water and know that everything always works out!

So the next time you break out or notice dark under-eye circles, look to your face map: your skin is probably trying to communicate on behalf of the internal organs. However, do remember that, as with all medical issues, it is always best to see your doctor or dermotologist for a proper prognosis. This is just a general guide to head you off in the right investigative direction – just because you break out between the brows doesn’t always mean you have a bad liver!"

While all that is probably good to know; There's always the less complicated approach. Clearskin Professional Acne treatment is "as easy as 1-2-3"

Dr. Karcher says: "The first thing I tell my patients is that a good skin care routine is the foundation for great skin. And keep itsimple! Use each step morning and night for the best results possible."
